Fairfax County firefighters rescued a toddler who was dangling from a sixth-floor window in Seven Corners on July 10, WUSA9 reports.

When firefighters arrived at about 3: 15 p.m., they found that the child, believed to be around 2 or 3 years old, had kicked out a window screen at a unit at Woodlake Towers in the 3100 block of S. Manchester St.

A group of people had gathered below the window, ready to catch the child if they fell.

Firefighters broke down the door to the apartment and found the child sitting on the windowsill. The child was brought back inside and was not injured.

According to 7News, police found three children inside the apartment without adult supervision. Detectives from FCPD’s Child Abuse Unit are investigating.

SafeKids Worldwide says an average of eight children ages 5 and younger die, and more than 3,300 are injured each year from falling out of windows.
