Construction to start soon on Hogge Park

Hogge Park

Construction could start as early as this month on improvements at the Boyd A & Charlotte M Hogge Park in Bailey’s Crossroads, the Fairfax County Park Authority reports.

The $2 million project includes an open play area, community gardens, multi-sport courts, a picnic shelter, play area, trail, and parking.

The contractor, Bright Construction Group, will mobilize shortly on the 6-acre site at 3139 Glen Carlyn Road. Nearby residents should expect occasional construction traffic entering and exiting the property.

Active construction is scheduled to be completed by early 2023. The project is funded by park bonds approved by voters.

According to the Master Plan for Hogge Park, the Park Authority purchased the property in 2006 from Charlotte Hogge and her children. The condition of the sale called for Charlotte to continue to live there for the rest of her life.

After she died, in 2007, her daughter, Marguerite Ashton Hogge, remained on the property by lease agreement until March 2008, when the Park Authority took possession of the property.

The Hogge family house was demolished in 2009 after the Park Authority determined it was not worth preserving.
