Driver charged in pedestrian crash

The Fairfax County Police Department has arrested the driver responsible for a fatal pedestrian crash in Seven Corners on Aug. 18.

The crash killed Albert Sweat, 62, of Maryland, as he was walking through a parking lot in the 6200 block of Arlington Boulevard.

Yansi Martinez Gonzalez was charged Aug. 30 with reckless driving and driving without a license. She was released on a summons and scheduled to appear in court.

Martinez Gonzelez, 26, of Falls Church, was driving a 2012 Honda Civic northbound on Wilson Boulevard. Detectives from the FCPD Crash Reconstruction Unit determined she made an improper lane change from the left lane into the side of a Volkswagen Jetta which was also heading north on Wilson Boulevard.

The collision forced the Volkswagen off the roadway into the adjacent parking lot, striking Sweat. The Volkswagen continued over a median and struck a parked 2010 GMC Yukon before coming to rest in a mulch bed.

Sweat was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The drivers and passengers in the three vehicles were not injured in the crash.

  1. To many drivers around here mimic the driver habits, practices and style of third world countries. I was scared more driving in Middle East than fighting there.
