One
proposed project calls for adding a lane in each direction between Guinea Road and
Burke Lake Road. Another proposal would add one HOV-bus lane in each direction between
Burke Lake Road and the beltway.

The
Board of Supervisors is expected to approve these projects as part of its next six-year transportation plan. The projects scored
high on a cost-benefit analysis conducted by county transportation officials to
determine which projects should be funded.
This
part of Braddock Road is one of the most congested corridors in the county,
handling approximately 70,000 automobile trips a day, Cook says.

A
third related project calls for a transit center—a parking garage and bus stops—along
Braddock Road in back of the Kings Park Shopping Center. The transit center
could be a key location for express bus service to Tysons using the beltway express
lanes. That project is not funded, but will be considered during the planning process.

A
citizen’s committee involved in the planning process will be introduced at the
meeting. The committee is chaired by Kevin Morse, the Braddock District
appointee to the Transportation Advisory Commission. Tom Kennedy, the Braddock
District representative on the Trails and Sidewalks Committee, is the vice chair. Leaders
of community associations along the Braddock Road corridor will be asked to identify
members of the committee.
