Farmers Market week Aug. 4-10

Good stuff at the Annandale Farmers Market.

The Fairfax County Park Authority is celebrating Farmer Market Week Aug. 4-10 with giveaways and recipe swaps at all 10 markets.

Drop off a recipe at the information tent, browse other recipes, and receive a free reusable, insulated bag.

The Annandale Farmers Market at Mason District Park is open Thursdays, 8 a.m.-noon. The Wakefield Market at Wakefield Park is open Wednesdays 2-6 p.m.

SNAP recipients receive up to $40 worth of additional fruits and vegetables for free at both markets. Visit the SNAP information tent, swipe your electronic benefits transfer card, and receive tokens that can be used like cash at the market. Tokens never expire.

You can donate produce and prepared food at the market information tent for local food pantries, including the one run by ACCA (Annandale Christian Community for Action).

All 10 markets accept food scraps for composting, which helps the county reduce landfill waste.
