Farmers markets open the first week of May

Fairfax County farmers’ markets are opening for the season soon with some new vendors.
The Wakefield Farmers Market opens Wednesday, May 6, 2-6 p.m., at the Audrey Moore Rec Center, 8100 Braddock Road in Annandale.
The Annandale Farmers Market, at Mason District Park on Columbia Pike, opens Thursday, May 7, 8 a.m.-noon.
The markets offer fresh produce from farms, plus a wide variety of baked goods and other prepared items.
The following vendors will be at the Wakefield market
Baguette Republic – Artisan breads, croissants, pastries, and cookies.
Black Sesame Rolls – Korean food, such as kimchi, walnut waffle snacks, and rice rolls made by a mother and daughter team.
Colonial Kettle Corn – Several popcorn varieties, such as cheddar, chocolate, jalapeño, and caramel corn.
F.J. Medina & Son Farm – Vegetables, fruit, herbs, and plants.
Grammy J’s Baking – Cookies and dog treats.
Kuhn Orchards – Vegetables, fruit, nuts, cider, and honey.
Linda Vista Farm – Vegetables, berries, herb plants, fruit.
Luke & Son for Global Food – Prepared foods, such as salads, wraps, falafel, Egyptian flat bread, and pickles.
My Alfajor – Various kinds of empanadas.
Salad Stars – Curated salad kits with fresh produce, fruit, cheese, crunchy toppings, and dressing – everything but lettuce.
Simosas & Mimosas – Hot sauce, kabobs, sandwiches.
Stallard Road Farm & Botanicals – Herbs, tea, jams.
Sue’s Pies and More – Pies and other baked goods.
The Wakefield Farmers Market will be open every Wednesday afternoon through Oct. 28.
Musician Ron Jarvis will perform at the market every week in May.
Annandale market vendors

Layla’s Lebanese Restaurant – Baba ghanouj, black bean hummus, grape leaves, and other prepared foods.
Panorama Baking – Loic Feillet – Bread and pastries.
Pho from Home – Pho, spring rolls, and other packaged Vietnamese food.
Sweet Taste of Ecuador – Ana’s Twist – Corn flour empanadas, cassava bread, soup, sorbet.
The Traveling Shepherd Coffee Co. – Coffee drinks and roasted coffee.
Ttu – Armenian fermented vegetables.
Twin Springs Fruit Farm – Vegetables and fruit.
Uncle Ping’s Street Foods – Sandwiches, dumplings, pork belly rice bowls.
Musician Anthony Carroll will perform at the Annandale Farmers Market on May 7 and May 21. Henry K. Noble, a one-man band, will play on May 14. Bluegrass musician Brian Pattullo will appear on May 28.
The Annandale market is open on Thursday mornings through Oct. 29.
Customers can drop off food waste at the farmers markets for composting.
Both the Wakefield and Annandale markets accept SNAP benefits.
