Green Spring Gardens hosts fall garden club for kids

A garden at Green Spring.

Green Spring Gardens is offering a Garden Club for kids ages 6-10 this fall. There are three monthly Saturday sessions.

The first meeting of the Let’s Grow Garden Club, on Sept. 24, is on the topic salad days. Kids will help harvest the vegetables that grew in the summer to make room for growing a fall salad garden. Once planting is done, kids can make and eat a salad with the fresh harvest.

On Oct. 29, participants will help Green Spring keep its garden free of spooky creatures by planting garlic. The program also covers pumpkins and the changing fall colors.

The focus for the Nov. 19 session is the holiday harvest. Young gardeners will help put the garden to rest for the winter and then warm up with apple cider. There will be dried herbs to take home for family holiday feasts.

All three programs are 1-2:30 p.m. Each session is $15. Green Spring Gardens is at 4903 Green Spring Road, Alexandria. For more information, call 703-642-5173.
