Jimenez reckless driving case postponed
The reckless driving charge against Mason Supervisor Andres Jimenez has been continued to Sept. 21.
Jimenez was charged with driving 104 mph in a 70 mph zone, which is considered reckless driving under state law. According to the Virginia State Police, he was driving a 2025 Porsche on the Route 66 express lanes shortly before 9 a.m. on May 5.
Jimenez was scheduled to appear in Traffic Court on July 20. The Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney asked to be recused from the case, so Judge Darwyn Easley on July 20 in Traffic Court granted a request by Jimenez’s attorney, Makan Shirafkan, to continue the case. Jimenez did not appear in court.

Jimenez and Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano have close political ties, and as a member of the Board of Supervisors, Jimenez oversees the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s budget.
The Commonwealth Attorney’s office issued the following statement: “Fairfax community members trust our office to prosecute cases fairly and hold individuals accountable when they break the law, regardless of their identity. We highly value this trust and would not want to give even the slightest appearance otherwise. We will therefore request that the court appoint a special prosecutor from another jurisdiction to handle the pending case against Fairfax County Supervisor Andres Jimenez.”
A General District Court judge will appoint a prosecutor from a nearby jurisdiction, possibly as early as this week.
Good on the Fairfax DA’s office for requesting a special prosecutor to avoid any appearance of impropriety.
It appears from this article that he was actually cited for 104 in the 66 express zone, not on Route 50 as originally reported. If so it’s less bad than originally reported but imo still unbecoming of a public official and he should still resign.

104 mph is less bad on the 66 express lane than on 50, but he did this at 9 a.m. and it’s still beyond reckless and extremely dangerous for his fellow citizens.
It is ironic that Jimenez serves on the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission. Out of respect for law and order, one would assume he would show up in court. Normal citizens have to do so. Perhaps he assumes, as supervisor, that he is above the law and thus entitled to drive 104 MPH during rush hour. He needs to resign.

I don’t understand why some are saying he should loose his job because he was speeding. Unless you drive a bus, would any of you loose your job for the same offense?
Moral proclamations only serve those who utter them. There is no such thing as an objective moral truth.
For going 104 mph on the freeway, yes, I would be afraid that I would lose my job because my actions reflect on my organization.
This is especially the case for officers and senior staff, and even more so when an egregious crime was committed.
Jimenez was elected on promises to increase traffic and pedestrian safety. This means he not only is a hypocrite who contributes to the problem he promised to tackle, but he also makes extremely poor decisions that physically endanger constituents’ lives.
This is why he should resign.
Maybe your company is more loose with their expectations because they don’t want to loose c-level officers such as yourself. I’ll leaf that to ewe two ponder.

Many years ago I got a reckless ticket for driving 20 mph over the limit on the Dulles airport road. Got 6 months suspended license, $350 fine and 2 nights in jail, with no prior tickets. I hope he gets the same.
If only EVERYONE who got a reckless driving ticket deserved to be fired from their job…really?
I think any and all politicians who drive 104 mph should step down.
