More essential workers eligible for COVID vaccine

Beginning today, April 5, individuals who live or work in the Fairfax Health District that fall into several occupational categories in Phase 1c are now eligible to register for a COVID-19 vaccination.
This includes people who work in energy; water, wastewater, and waste removal; housing and construction; food service; transportation and logistics; and faculty and staff in higher education.
Employees should be prepared to show some form of work-related identification or paystub as the vaccine appointment could be offered by one of the county’s vaccine partners that may require an ID.
The Fairfax Health District includes Fairfax County, the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church, and the towns of Clifton, Herndon, and Vienna.

The Fairfax County Health Department expects to move into the rest of Phase 1c later this week and start vaccinations for Phase 2 by April 18.
The energy category includes people who work in the electric industry, environmental consulting, gas stations, fuel dealers, renewable energy, utilities, and others. See the full list here.
The water, wastewater and waste removal category includes workers and administrators in water resources and solid waste programs, plumbing, recycling, and water utilities.

Eligible workers in housing and construction include people in architecture, housing administration, engineering, community housing services, construction, electricians, hardware retail, house painters, real estate services, hotel and motel staff, interior design, and specialty trade contractors.
The transportation and logistics category covers a wide range of occupations. A few examples: air traffic controllers, flight crews, automotive repair and maintenance, electronic shopping and mail-order houses, maritime workers, private mail centers, rail transportation, road construction, taxi services, and trucking.
