Neighborhood organizations interested in sprucing up their common areas, developing playgrounds, creating gardens, or otherwise enhancing their property and strengthening community spirit should consider applying for a Neighborhood Enhancement Partnership Program (NEPP) grant.
This county program provides up to $5,000 in matching grant funds to homeowner associations, recreation clubs, civic associations, and other eligible groups.
The NEPP grant program is aimed at promoting healthier, safer, cleaner, and more attractive neighborhoods; encouraging or creating a culture of engagement by strengthening connections in neighborhoods among individuals, youths, and families; and developing neighborhood leadership.
Applications are due Oct. 31, and grants are expected to be awarded in February 2012. Grantees must be prepared to commit extensive volunteer hours to their projects.
The county has scheduled information sessions in various locations to explain the grant program and the application process. The meeting closest to Annandale is Sept. 15, at 6 p.m., at the Falls Church Human Services Building, Suite 305, 6245 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church.
