New athletic training facility opens in Pinecrest Plaza

D1 Training, an athletic coaching and fitness facility for people of all abilities, is now open at 6550 Little River Turnpike in Pinecrest Plaza.

There will be a grand opening on Monday, Oct. 11, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., with a ribbon-cutting, a DJ, snacks, pro athlete appearances, and raffles.

D1 offers athletic-focused training and exercise for various age groups: 7-11, 12-14, 15-18, and adults. Trainers use weights, resistance bands, treadmills, rowing machines, and other gear to help people develop strength, agility, coordination, and flexibility. The training for kids also focuses on character development.

“You don’t have to be an athlete,” says General Manager Mike Gieseler. According to the D1 mission statement, “An athlete is anyone dedicated to their sport or their fitness.”

The center also offers team training and is already working with the lacrosse team at Alexandria City High School.

Memberships are $60 a week, which includes unlimited classes. There’s a special going on now for $45 a week for anyone who signs up through Oct. 11.

D1 is a franchise company with over 70 locations in the United States. The Pinecrest Plaza location is the first one in the D.C. area.
