Park Authority honors volunteers
The Fairfax County Park Authority Board is honoring 21 individuals as 2026 Outstanding Volunteers.
They were recognized by their peers for their dedication to their community and their invaluable service to the Fairfax County park system.
The honorees include the following volunteers at Mason District/Annandale park facilities:
- Debo Burk, general support assistant at the Providence Rec Center;
- Mary Zook, special event and education program support volunteer at Green Spring Gardens;
- Avril Garland, invasive management area site leader for the Accotink Stream Valley Park;
- Bill Masker, front desk volunteer at the Audrey Moor Rec Center; and
- Carol Tretkoff, resource naturalist at the Hidden Oaks Nature Center.
According to the Park Authority, more than 10,770 volunteers contributed to the operation, preservation, and conservation of Fairfax County parks in FY 2026. They contributed 115,718 hours of volunteer service. Their work is valued at over $3.98 million. “The Park Authority could not function without the support and commitment of our volunteer force.”
The 21 outstanding volunteers will be honored at Volunteer Appreciation Night on July 16, 5:30 p.m., at the Fairfax County Government Center’s Evenings on the Ellipse Summer Concert Series.
