Pike Kitchen opens in Annandale this week

Renovations are nearly complete at Pike Kitchen.

Pike Kitchen is expected to have a soft opening this Thursday afternoon and a grand opening on Friday.

The restaurant, located at 7023 Columbia Pike in the former O’My Chiq space, features Japanese and Korean food. Diners can order sushi and nigiri from the Roll Play menu or stone pot bibimbap and other items from Bowl Play.

Pike Kitchen has a heated patio in front . . .

Diners order and pay on a kiosk by the front door, pick up their meals at the counter, and throw out their own trash. There is no waitstaff, and as a result, no tipping, says manager Joe Hwang.

One of the most popular dishes is expected to be spicy pork noodles, which is the best-seller at the original Pike Kitchen in Rockville.

Among the other menu items: Japanese-style ramen, bento boxes, deep-fried tofu pockets, panko-fried oysters, bao buns, and desserts.

Unlike O’My Chiq, Pike Kitchen doesn’t sell cocktails, just beer, wine, and soju, Hwang says. “We’re keeping it as simple as possible. We’re more focused on food and want to welcome families.”

When it gets warmer, he hopes to hold special events in the restaurant’s spacious backyard.

Pike Kitchen will be open 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11:30 a.m.-midnight on Friday and Saturday.

  1. This location is cursed. You really must a new concept and some lavish marketing to get traffic here. They’re model has already failed in this area many times over. With that said, I truly wish them the best.

  2. O My Chiq’n Bar was often out of basic menu items (but you didn’t find out until you ordered them), bad food and bad service. We need another Silverado-style restaurant (Great American Restaurants are you listening? How about a Coastal Flats?) not yet ANOTHER Asian option. Dice Burger was good but they didn’t have a marketing budget and just waited for people to show up. BTW, the chef owner now works at Joon if you miss the food like the creamy lentil soup to die for.

Part of the problem with this location is too many derivative restaurants. They copy the concept of other restaurants in the area and become a poor imitation of the originals, not to mention further slicing up the same clientele. I will try this new place, but they need to be distinctively different to succeed.

  3. Annandale needs more variety in restaurants. How about a good sit-down Italian , Medeterranian, or seafood restaurant. We already have all the pizza places, pastry shops and asian restaurants that are needed.

    1. Try Basil or Bitez for Mediterranean food. There’s also CAVA in Foxchase. But I wouldn’t object to an Italian or Mediterranean restaurant in downtown Annandale.

  4. Oh man we really liked the food at O My Chiq. But it seemed like their hours were never stable, the last couple times my wife and I tried to get lunch there and they weren’t open when they were supposed to be. Not a recipe for success.
