Qualified individuals can ride Fairfax Connector buses for free
Fairfax Connector has launched a new program allowing lower-income residents to ride the buses for free.
The new TRIP100 program builds on the existing Transit Ridership Incentive Program (TRIP), which provides a 50 percent fare discount for qualified residents.
To be eligible for 100 percent discounts under TRIP100, participants must meet one of these criteria:
- Be 50 years of age or older, with an annual income of $50,000 or less per individual.
- Have an annual income of $32,805, or 225 percent of the federal poverty limit for an individual 50 years of age or younger.
- Be a registered user of MetroAccess.
- Receive Supplemental Security Income or Social Security Disability Insurance.
- Receive assistance services and have a caseworker through another Fairfax County agency or organization.
Fairfax Connector is currently transitioning existing TRIP customers from the old program to the new one. Apply for a new TRIP100 SmarTrip card here.
New cards are expected to arrive in September. Until new cards are issued, current TRIP customers can continue using their existing TRIP cards.
TRIP100 is supported by a grant from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.
“TRIP100 is part of Fairfax County’s ongoing efforts to expand access to public transportation for those in need,” said Kala Berry, TRIP100 program manager. “Programs like TRIP100 make it easier for eligible residents to use Fairfax Connector for work, appointments, and other daily trips with the goal of helping individuals and families get back on their feet.”
