Registration opened on July 6 for the 2026 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics.

The NVSO consists of 47 athletic and recreational events held in various locations throughout Northern Virginia from Sept. 11 through Oct. 4.

Events range from a 5K trail race to horseshoes, duplicate bridge to poker.

New events this year are rock climbing and darts.

Participants must be at least 50 years old and must be a resident of Arlington County, Fairfax County, Fauquier County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, or the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, or Falls Church.

The registration fee is $20, which covers an unlimited number of events. Some events – bowling, golf, cycling, orienteering, and rock climbing – have additional fees. Register here.

NVSO locations in the Annandale/Mason District area include the Audrey Moore Rec Center (racquetball), Wakefield Park (football throw, frisbee throw, softball hit and throw, and tennis), Goodwin House at Bailey’s Crossroads (Mexican train dominoes), and the Lincolnia Senior Center (cribbage, line dancing, and pool).

The goal of the NVSO is to promote health, fitness, and psychological well-being for senior adults. It’s more about fellowship and socialization than competition, although there are medals for the winners.
