Sizemore Heizer launches campaign for Braddock supervisor

Rachna Sizemore Heizer

Rachna Sizemore Heizer, the Braddock representative on the Fairfax County School Board, is running as a Democrat for the Board of Supervisors.

The current Braddock supervisor, James Walkinshaw, is expected to win a special election for Congress on Sept. 9.

At-large school board member Ilryong Moon is also running as a Democrat for the Braddock seat on the Board of Supervisors. Additional candidates are expected to join the race in the coming days.

“Braddock is where I built my life – where I raised my kids, fought for all families to have a seat at the table, grew my business, and dedicated myself to public service,” Sizemore Heizer said in her campaign announcement released on July 21. “I know this community, and I know how to get results.”

“From delivering critical resources to our schools to standing up to attacks from MAGA extremists in Richmond and Washington, I’ve led with compassion and courage,” she said. “Now, I’m ready to bring that same leadership to the Board of Supervisors – to stand up for federal workers and fight for affordable housing, strong schools, safe neighborhoods.”

Sizemore Heizer was first elected to the school board in 2020 as an at-large member. She has served as school board chair and currently chairs the board’s Budget Committee. On the board, she has been a key advocate for services for special-needs students.

Sizemore Heizer told Annandale Today, her main priorities are affordability – for housing, childcare, and caregiving – along with quality-of-life issues, and a strong economy. She would like to see the county attract companies that provide jobs in cybersecurity, AI, and healthcare.

Her campaign announcement also lists the following priorities:

  • Building safe, connected communities with traffic mitigation, improved transportation, pedestrian, and bike infrastructure.
  • Enhancing parks, community, and green spaces and strengthening environmental protections.
  • Strengthening public schools with equitable resources.
  • Standing with labor and advancing fair wages, strong public services, and inclusive governance.
  • Improving access to mental health and disability services.
  • Fostering inclusive communities where everyone is welcome, safe, and affirmed.

Sizemore Heizer, an Indian-American, is the program coordinator and lecturer for the Human Resource Development Program at Texas Tech University.

She says she is entering the race with distinct advantages, including more than $50,000 in her campaign account, committed volunteers in every precinct, and hundreds of grassroots donors.
