Supervisor Jimenez charged with reckless driving

Mason District Supervisor Andres Jimenez has been charged with reckless driving for going 104 miles per hour in a 70-mph zone.
Jimenez is scheduled to appear in the Fairfax County General District Court on July 20, 9:30 a.m.
The traffic stop, by Virginia State Police trooper Alex Pak, occurred on May 5. Jimenez was also charged with failing to have a registration card.
Under the Virginia Code, a “reckless driving” charge applies to anyone driving in excess of 85 mph or exceeding the speed limit by 20 mph.
Reckless driving is a Class 1 misdemeanor. A conviction could result in a fine of up to $2,500 and/or up to 12 months in jail.
The summons from the Virginia State Police does not indicate the road where the incident took place or the time of day. There are no roads within Fairfax County with a 70-mph speed limit. There are stretches of I-95 and I-66 outside Northern Virginia that allow speeds up to 70 mph.
Jimenez has represented Mason District on the Board of Supervisors since January 2024. The board sets policies on public safety and transportation, among other issues.
Jimenez chairs the board’s Legislative Committee and serves as vice chair of the Personnel and Reorganization Committee. He also represents Fairfax County on the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission as an alternate.
