Supervisors approve Cavalier Club expansion

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on May 5 greenlighted a major expansion of the Cavalier Club apartments in Seven Corners.

The supervisors approved an amendment to the county’s Comprehensive Plan to allow an additional 300 residential units on the property for a total of 520, plus 20,000 square feet of retail.

The property owner, Southern Management, also submitted a rezoning plan calling for a new multifamily building with up to 250 units, 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, and a new parking garage.

The existing 12-story, 220-unit Cavalier Club building, located at 6200 Wilson Boulevard, would remain.

The new building would be adjacent to Wilson Boulevard, displacing the surface lot.

According to the development proffers, at least 10 percent of the units in the new building are expected to meet the county’s guidelines for affordable Workforce Dwelling Units.

The Planning Commission recommended approval of the plan amendment in March.

A section of the property is located in Arlington County. Southern Management is expected to propose a townhouse development in that area. The company also owns the Parliaments in Annandale.
