Taco restaurant coming to Barcroft Plaza

A selection of items from Taco Zocalo.

Chef Basir Ahadi hopes to open Taco Zocalo in Barcroft Plaza at the end of January or February. This will be the fourth Taco Zocalo location.

The restaurant will focus on Mexican street food, including tacos, burritos, and chimichangas.

Everything is made fresh, Basir says. The meat is marinated in-house, and the hot sauces, salas, and organic corn and flour tortillas are also made on-site. In the summer, they use locally grown produce from farmers markets.

Diners order at a counter, and staff bring their food to the table. Local and Mexican beers will be available.

Basir studied the culinary arts, focusing on the food of Latin America, at the Art Institute of Washington.

He started with a food truck, called Chef on Wheels, in 2012. He opened his first brick-and-mortar Taco Zocalo restaurant, in Reston, in 2017, which was followed by locations in Ashburn and Chantilly.

His food truck used to make the rounds at community pools in the Annandale area, so he thought that would be a good location for his next restaurant.
