Teacher at Holmes Middle School arrested for sexual assault

Fairfax County Police have arrested a teacher for sexually assaulting a student more than 20 years ago. 

Detectives arrested Marc Damon Cheatham, 51, of Woodbridge, on Jan. 20. He was charged with two counts of forcible sodomy involving a child under age 12, aggravated sexual assault of a child under 13, and producing obscene materials involving a minor. He is currently being held at the county’s Adult Detention Center without bond.

At the time of his arrest, Cheatham was employed as a sixth-grade history and social studies teacher at Holmes Middle School in the Lincolnia area of Mason District. He has been at Holmes since 2017. 

At the time of the assaults, Cheatham was a teacher at Barden Elementary School on Fort Belvoir. He taught at Barden between 1993 and 1998. That school closed in 1998 and was replaced by Fort Belvoir Elementary School.

Cheatham has been a teacher with Fairfax County Public Schools for 29 years. He has also taught at Mount Eagle Elementary School (1992-93), Fort Belvoir ES (1998-2000), Groveton ES (2000-04), Lorton Station ES (2004-06), Terra Centre ES (2006-10), and Newington Forest ES (2010-17).
