The Taste of Annandale Planning Committee appreciates the Annandale Rotary Club for signing on as a Gold Sponsor along with the Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club.

Annandale Rotary President Joe Do is working on revitalizing the club after many activities were shut down during the pandemic and after the club’s longtime former president, Bob Kahane, passed away in February after a long illness.

Do has also taken on a key planning role for the Taste of Annandale, which Kahan had done since the first one in 2015. The festival is this Saturday, April 29, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., on Tom Davis Drive – rain or shine.

Do is working on strengthening the Annandale Rotary Club’s relationship with the Interact Club at Annandale High School and has recently taken on sponsorship of Boy Scout Troop 150.

“We want to get young people more involved with community service projects,” Do says. “We just want to bring everyone together and connect kids with volunteer opportunities.” Some of his ideas include getting youths to help with the food pantry at Annandale High School, food-packing events, and community cleanups.

Do also wants to revive the Rotaract Club at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale. That is challenging, he says, because many students take classes online so they don’t spend much time on campus.

One activity the Annandale Rotary Club is continuing is its annual award of scholarships for graduates of Annandale High School and NVCC. The club has given thousands of dollars in scholarships over the years.

The group meets once a week at the Juke Box Diner in Annandale, on the first Wednesday of the month, and hosts a monthly happy hour at the Cue Club.
