Three people killed after being struck by a train at Lake Accotink

Three people – two adults and a child – were killed after being struck by a freight train while walking on the tracks above Accotink Park Road shortly before 8:30 p.m. on June 5, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

All three were declared deceased on the scene.

The Norfolk Southern train was heading northbound on the bridge over Accotink Creek at Lake Accotink Park. The victims were found on the creek banks.

  1. I was kayaking at Lake Accotink recently and noticed two people walking across that trestle. Not sure but does it even have a rail? It is so obviously dangerous, and at dusk, with a child? Tragic, but also just stupid behavior.

  2. Apparently they had posted a photo to IG just moments before. The persuit of social media popularity cost the parents not just their lives but the life of their child. When does the cost become too high?!?
