Tom Dannan wins school board election

Braddock District voters elected Tom Dannan to the Fairfax County School Board in a special election on March 3.

Dannan, who was endorsed by the Fairfax County Democratic Committee, got 65.5 percent of the vote, while the Republican-endorsed candidate, Saundra Davis, got 34.3 percent. A total of 3,355 votes were cast.

Dannan beat Alexa Krezel in a Democratic firehouse primary on Jan. 10 to secure the Democratic nomination.

The Braddock seat on the school board had been open following the election of Rachna Sizemore Heizer to the Board of Supervisors.

Dannan is the former PTA president for Terra Centre Elementary School in Burke, and is a senior manager at R3 Government Solutions, a federal contractor. He and his wife own the My Gym children’s fitness center in Burke.

He served in the Peace Corps as a community health educator after college and returned to the developing world later as the manager of a remote health clinic in South Sudan.
