Additional charges filed against county code inspector

Additional charges were filed against Rakesh Kapoor, an inspector at the Fairfax County
Department of Code Compliance (DCC) who was arrested in March for larceny after
being accused for asking a resident for cash in return for expedited services.
After
that incident was publicized, an additional victim came forward, the Fairfax County Police Department reports. An employee at a local church reported three
similar interactions with Kapoor that occurred in December 2015 and January 2016.

The
victim walked into the DCC office and said Kapoor had promised
services to the church in return for money. Kapoor received payments
independent of his position as a code compliance inspector and for tasks
outside of his scope of employment.

After
further investigation by the FCPD
s Major Crimes Division, three additional felony
warrants for “obtaining money by false pretense” were issued for Kapoor on
April 19. In the early morning hours of  April 20, he was arrested by Manassas Park
Police Department officers and then handed over to Fairfax County officers. He was
transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where the warrants
were executed.
The DCC “is committed to transparency and integrity
in its interactions with the county’s residents and community members,” says
Fairfax County public affairs director Tony Castrilli. “DCC continues to cooperate
fully with the FCPD’s ongoing investigation into the alleged criminal acts. DCC
is also working closely with the county’s Office of Internal Audit to review
practices and procedures.”
