The Alexandria City Council on March 18 unanimously approved Inova Health System’s application for a special use permit to construct a medical campus at the WestEnd Town Center (formerly Landmark Mall).

This new Inova Alexandria medical campus will have an acute-care hospital, cancer center, and specialty care center.

The hospital will have a large emergency room, private patient rooms, and “careful attention to creating a healing environment for our patients and families,” Inova Health System states.

The campus includes a new branch of the Inova Schar Cancer Institute, which will offer radiation, infusion, and Life with Cancer services for patients. The specialty care center will house an estimated 50 physician offices.

The medical complex is expected to open in 2028. It will replace the current Inova Alexandria Hospital on Seminary Road.

“It is our duty to ensure that our new hospital is not only a state-of-the-art facility, but also a place where compassion, excellence, and innovation come together to provide the best possible care for our community,” said Inova President and CEO J. Stephen Jones.

  1. This has been a project for years, no question it was happening. The City Council just now “approving” it is interesting, in the sense that there must be some weird politics involved. After all, it’s been approved already for some years now.

  2. Drug rehab ? Tropical disease treatment ? The E room there will be like knife and gun club and the first stop for all the mentally ill in crisis. The last place you’ll want to go for routine medical

  3. During this time I hope that you carry out an extensive and rigorous training on teaching your staff about patient care.
