Asiantique Market – food and fun for a cause

The Halloween-themed Asiantique Market Oct. 21 in Annandale featured more than 30 vendors selling Thai and other Asian food, old-school breakdancing by the Innovation Crew, and a costume contest.

The event is held monthly from March to October at the Elmer Timberman Masonic Lodge at 6911 Columbia Pike. This was the last one for 2023.

Vendors offered everything from Thai dumplings to quail eggs on a stick, grilled squid, shrimp pancakes, mango with sticky rice, anime-themed toys, and fried silkworms.

Nelson Figueroa Velez and Muttima Suptongtavorn of International Embassy Inc., a nonprofit aimed at helping child victims of human trafficking, organized the event to raise funds for the organization.

Velez, an immigration attorney based in Annandale, said when the markets resume next spring, they will add more activities, such as Muay Thai boxing and movies.

  1. Thanks please keep us posted next time it starts back up. I haven’t seen it advertised anywhere but all the cars parked in Columbia Pines notifies me when they are there.

  2. It is disconcerting that it’s just for Asians, though I acknowledge some types of equality should be more equal than others.

    1. Hi Shin, if you do your reading, you will notice that the event is to showcase Asian food, it does not say anywhere that its “just for Asians”, you know the ol saying of what assume means, if you don’t, google it.

      1. Yet I was dissuaded from showcasing my kosher food and told to sign up for a taste of Annandale.

You assumed I was talking about attendees having to be Asian but I was talking about vendors.

You know that old saying about “assume”
