Barricade situation resolved peacefully

Police respond to barricade situation at the Jefferson. [FCPD]

A man is in custody following a barricade situation at the Jefferson apartment complex in the 6100 block of Leesburg Pike, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

Police had been called because a man was acting erratically. When officers arrived at about 2 a.m., on March 8, they saw a man sitting partially out of a fifth-floor window armed with a knife and threatening to harm himself.

He refused commands to surrender and barricaded himself in his apartment. Patrol officers contained the scene while crisis negotiators and tactical officers responded.

The barricade was peacefully resolved nearly seven hours later when the man was taken into custody without any use of force. He is receiving a mental health evaluation at a hospital.

The Jefferson is halfway between Seven Corners and Bailey’s Crossroads.
