Congressional School broke ground Nov. 5 for a new aquatic center.

The aquatic center will have a heated swimming pool with a water slide and diving board, a splash zone with water features, and a graduated beach entrance. It is expected to open in spring 2022.

The private school, at 3229 Sleepy Hollow Road in the Falls Church area of Mason District, serves 450 children from infants to students in grade 8 and more than 2,000 children in summer camp programs.

Congressional started planning the new pool years ago, but its fundraising efforts shifted to more urgent priorities during the Covid pandemic. School officials are grateful to the Rameika family for stepping up with the largest gift in the school’s history to cover the deficit.

The new aquatic center will replace Congressional School’s original pool built in 1964 shortly after the Sleepy Hollow Road campus opened.
