The county will collect discarded Christmas trees

The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services’ Solid Waste Program will collect discarded Christmas trees left on the curb during the first two weeks of January.

The trees will be recycled, with the mulch made available to county residents. Tree lights and decorations should be removed.

After Jan. 13, residents who receive county trash and recycling services can schedule a brush pickup for trees.

Trees can also be dropped off at the I-66 Transfer Station at 4618 West Ox Road in Fairfax or the I-95 Landfill Complex at 9850 Furnace Road in Lorton. There is a $9 disposal fee for Christmas trees.

Dumping the trees in parks is illegal and harmful to the environment.
