DWI, fraud arrests in Annandale area

Herriott

The Fairfax County Police Blotter lists two arrests over the weekend in the Annandale area.

A police officer noticed the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe slumped over the steering wheel apparently asleep at the Old Columbia Pike/Little River Turnpike intersection at about 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 6. When the officer woke the driver, he sped off.

Aman

After chasing the vehicle for about seven tenths of a mile with emergency lights and siren activated, the officer used the PIT maneuver (precision immobilization technique), a widely used method  developed in Fairfax County, to bring the Tahoe to a stop at Braddock Road and Irvin Court.

The driver, Carl Herriott, 38, was arrested and charged with eluding and DWI. He was not injured.

On Dec. 5, Abdul Saboor Aman, 31, of Annandale, was arrested at the Bradlick Shopping Center at about 10 a.m. and charged with obtaining money by false pretenses. He had been allegedly offering non-existent “government jobs” to people who paid for background checks.

  1. Somewhat defamatory to list arrests and not convictions. If these gentlemen are acquitted, you've already branded them as criminals.

    1. Not defamatory at all, she's only repeating what is publicly available through FCPD. Would you not have anyone report on crime period until there is a conviction? I guess we should probably shut up about Dzhokhar Tsarnaev until he's convicted. Wouldn't want to run the risk of potential slander.

    2. Good point, anonymous, but this information is listed on the police blotter and available to the public.

    3. So the Annandale Blog is going to report all information on all persons arrested in Mason District on a regular basis, and not just selectively when it's a slow news day. If not, sounds defamatory (and discriminatory) to me.

    4. Would like to do all, but obviously have missed some. Maybe should just post the "worst" crimes. Don't know.

    5. Keep up the good work in reporting local incidents/arrests/crime. It's good to know what goes on in the neighborhood

    6. If you do not want to know what is going on locally they just request not to receive the Annandale Blog. I for one think Ellie does an amazing job and we are blessed to have her reporting the news that she choices. The Annandale Blog is a Blog not a news agency so it is her choice. Elllie keep up the good work and I for one am proud to be an Annandale Blog member and know you are not discriminatory. Thank you for all your hard work.
