Early voting starts today

Early voting starts today at three locations for the Nov. 4 election.

Meanwhile, a special election for the Braddock District supervisor has been set for Dec. 9, with a Democratic Primary on Oct. 4.

The statewide positions of governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general are on the Nov. 4 ballot, as well as all members of the House of Delegates.

Early voting is available at these locations, as of Sept. 19:

  • The Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Conference Rooms 2/3 – Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 26, 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
  • The Mount Vernon Government Center, 2511 Parkers Lane, Alexandria – Monday-Friday, 1-7 p.m.; Saturdays 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 26, 1-5 p.m.
  • North County Government Center, 1801 Cameron Glen Drive, Reston – Monday-Friday, 1-7 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 26, 1-5 p.m.

Early voting will start at 13 more locations on Oct. 23, including the Mason Government Center and the Thomas Jefferson Library.

The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is 5 p.m. on Oct. 24.

To verify whether you are registered to vote, visit the Citizen Portal on the Virginia Department of Elections website.

These statewide candidates will be on the Nov. 4 ballot:

  • Governor – Abigail Spanberger (D), Winsome Earle-Sears (R)
  • Lieutenant governor – Ghazala Hashmi (D), John Reid (R)
  • Attorney General – Jay Jones (D), Jason Miyares (R)

The following members of the House of Delegates representing the Annandale/Mason area will be on the ballot:

  • 14th District – Del. Vivian Watts (D), Eric Johnson (R)
  • 3rd District – Del. Alfonso Lopez (D), unopposed
  • 13th District – Del. Marcus Simon (D), Silwia Oleksy (R), Dave Crance (L)

Also on the ballot: a $460 million Fairfax County school bond.

The special election in Fairfax County on Dec. 9 will fill the Braddock seat on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors vacated by James Walkinshaw following his election to Congress.

The Fairfax County Democratic Committee has scheduled a firehouse primary for Oct. 4. Only residents of the Braddock District can vote.

Voting can be done online or in person. Registration to vote online will begin at 9 a.m. on Sept. 27 and will end on Oct. 1 at 5 p.m.

Voting in the primary will begin at 12 p.m. on Oct. 2 and end on 5 p.m. on Oct. 4.

Candidates running in the Democratic Primary include at-large school board member Ilryong Moon, Braddock school board member Rachna Sizemore Heizer, Sabrina Mattin, a leader of the Fairfax County Young Democrats, and librarian April Pavis Schroeder.
