Sabrina Mattin, a small business owner and community activist, is running as a Democrat for the Braddock District seat on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

That position will be vacant if Braddock Supervisor James Walkinshaw is elected to Congress in a special election on Sept. 9.

School Board members Rachna Sizemore Heizer (Braddock) and Ilryong Moon (at-large) are also running for the Board of Supervisors as Democrats. Ken Balbuena is running as a Republican.

Her profile on LinkedIn lists her current job as director of strategy for the OXUS Group, a federal contractor based in D.C.

A press release from Mattin says her campaign will focus on “delivering responsive constituent services, expanding affordable housing, and driving innovative economic growth that keeps Fairfax thriving for every generation.”

If elected, Mattin pledges to:

  • Drive economic growth by attracting investment, building partnerships, supporting small businesses, and transforming vacant office space into community assets.
  • Champion affordable housing and sustainable land use so seniors can age in place and young families can afford to call Fairfax County home.
  • Fully fund community priorities, especially public education, without putting added strain on working families, by pursuing creative and equitable revenue solutions.
  • Protect schools, families, and public resources from Trump’s dangerous agenda.
  • Deliver fast, reliable constituent services for everyday needs like street repairs, traffic safety, and county navigation.

  1. Tax and spend and tell others what they can do with their property is what I understand is her platform from the story. Just what Fairfax is used to voting into office. An economic reckoning is coming and learning how to control and reduce spending is a key part of that we as citizens need to be thinking about or it will be more draconian than it has to be.

    1. That reckoning won’t happen. I’m used to reading complaints about property taxes constantly increasing. However, the Democrats will continue writing checks they can’t cover other than by continually increasing property taxes. This has been the norm since the 1980s and nothing is likely to change.
