FCPS schools expected to reopen Tuesday

With Fairfax County public schools closed again on Monday, Beech Tree Elementary School and Poe Middle School are calling upon community volunteers to help clear snow off the sidewalks around the school and bus stops. Other schools in the Annandale area have the same needs. So if you’re not tired of shoveling—or even if you are—come out and help our children get to school safely.

FCPS Superintendent Jack Dale anticipates schools will be open for students Tuesday, Feb. 16, with a two-hour delay.

The snowman, created by staff at Parklawn Elementary School, expresses the feeling of many educators in the wake of the longest school break due to snow in recent memory. School staff are expected to report to work Monday, and school buildings will be open for community use Monday evening.

  1. While I hope the kids can get back in school, it will be a challenge based on my trip past Beech Tree on Sunday PM. Teacher parking was virtually non-existent and the roads near the school were atrocious. The snow sculpture of the shark at a house on Beech Tree Lane was worth the trip however.

On a side note, I would love to send out a big Thank you to the 3 groups of people that helped me get unstuck (3 times) last Thursday evening. These were the first times in my life (30 years of driving) that I have ever gotten stuck in snow. Snow removal in BC leaves a lot to be desired. Anyways, to the family that helped out on Murray, the two teens on Ridge and the group of people on Donna Lane, thanks again. I really really appreciate it.
