Fun and fitness at Annandale’s Pop-Up Park

Game time at the Pop-Up Park.

It was a beautiful day for outdoor fun and fitness Saturday morning, and that’s what happened at Annandale’s Pop-Up Park.

Fairfax County Park Authority staff led a Zumba session and hosted disc golf, a watermelon roll, and other games.

A bike course for kids.

Other activities during the park’s Fun and Fitness Day included were jump ropes made from recycled bags, a hula hoop contest, giant Four Square and checkers games, and soccer. There were giveaways from Cigna and the Inova Physical Therapy Center, water from Fairfax Water, a fire department truck to explore, a DJ, and snow cones.

The Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling created a chalk-drawn “traffic garden” to teach kids about bike safety, and staff from Fairfax County’s Bike Fairfax program passed out bike trail maps.

Joe Vida of the Audrey Moore RECenter and Julie Fredericks of the Cub Run RECenter give out healthy snacks.

The Pop-Up Park, at 7300 Columbia Pike, was created by the Community Revitalization Section of the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Development as a way to transform an unused area of the ACCA Child Development Center parking lot into a fun gathering space for the public.

A watermelon roll is just what it sounds like.

The Pop-Up Park is hosting Community Day on Oct. 5 during the Taste of Annandale, with displays from the library, animal shelter, and other agencies.
