Glasgow Middle School is National Demonstration site for AVID

Glasgow Middle School has again been designated a National Demonstration School by AVID, reports Principal Shawn DeRose Dec. 7.

The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program provides extra support to students in kindergarten through postsecondary education aimed at motivating underperforming students to consider going to college and prepare to succeed once they get their.

Glasgow is the only FCPS middle school recognized as an AVID national demonstration site and one of just 150 worldwide. It was selected  through an application and screening review process that included a site visit. AVID is in approximately 5,600 schools in the United States and 16 other countries.

“It is a tremendous honor to be selected as a National Demonstration School and we are proud of our AVID program and our school as a whole,” DeRose says. “The use of AVID strategies schoolwide has positively impacted students and staff, and we continue to see a more engaged and college-ready student body.”
