A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the residents of a townhome in Springfield recover from a devastating fire on Oct. 18.

The campaign was posted by a family friend, who says Nina Garcia, her two children, and her mother are “in urgent need of financial assistance as they begin to rebuild their lives.”

Nina’s son, Charles, and her mother, Diana, were the only ones at home when the fire broke out. They were saved by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

Charles was airlifted to Children’s National, where he is in stable condition after being intubated for smoke inhalation, Steele reports.

Diana is at a Fairfax hospital, where she was also treated for smoke inhalation. She is battling advanced-stage cancer.

Their young cat, Butters, was rescued, but their older cat, Bagel, perished in the fire.

Nina is a dermatology physician assistant, but will be unable to work while her son and mother recover. The Garcia family needs assistance for temporary housing, basic needs, and daily essentials.

They are unable to live in their home, and all of their belongings were damaged.
