Luther Jackson Middle School postponed its Valentine’s Day dance, which was scheduled for Feb. 14, due to threats of violence, FFXnow reports.

Graffiti was found in a school restroom on Feb. 12 that made a vague threat that there would be a shooting at the school on Feb. 14, Principal Raven Jones said in a message to parents.

“We notified the Office of Safety and Security and the Fairfax County Police who have responded, checked the school, and begun an investigation,” Jones wrote. “Fairfax County Police continue to investigate but do not believe that there is a valid threat to the school based solely on this graffiti.”

There was a second anonymous threat circulating on Instagram and Twitter claiming that there would be a shooting and possibly a bomb at the school on Feb. 15.

Jones urges anyone with information to contact the FCPS Office of Safety at 571-423-2000 or submit a tip through the anonymous tip line.

The Fairfax County Police Department told FFXnow it is investigating but doesn’t believe there is a substantial threat.

A new date for the school dance hasn’t been scheduled yet.
