Book sale at library opens next week

Thousands of used books will be on sale at George Mason Regional Library.

Looking for a book to read to the kids, a travel book to plan your next trip, or a novel for hunkering down on a cool fall evening?

The fall used book sale at George Mason Regional Library in Annandale has all that and much more.

The sale, sponsored by George Mason Friends. is Thursday, Oct. 20-Sunday, Oct. 23, 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the sale support George Mason Regional, Library, the Fairfax County Summer Reading Program, and many library-related programs.

In addition to thousands of high-quality hardback and paperback books, the sale includes CDs and DVDs. A whole room will be dedicated to children’s books.

Some of the book categories are fine art, collectibles, history, cooking, science, philosophy, mystery, biography, military history, and performing arts.

There will be a large selection of vintage sheet music covers from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s for 25 to 75 cents. These items can be framed and used for home décor.

Come early for the best selections and return on Sunday for half-price bargains.

  • The Thrilling Comic Book Cover Art of Alex Schomburg, 1st printing, $40.
  • The Essence of Line: French Drawings from Ingres to Degas, by Jay McKean Fisher at al., $17.50.
  • The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, in Persian, English, and French, $40.
  • The Stones of Venice, three volumes, by John Ruskin, $100.
  • The Adventures of Gremlin, by DuPre Jones with drawings by Edward Gorey, $15.    
  • The Green Knight, by Iris Murdoch, autographed, $45.
  • Chinese Biographical Dictionary, by Herbert Giles, $500.
  • Abraham Lincoln, As a Man Among Men, by G. Lynn Sumner, inscribed by the author, $20.
  • The New Book of Runes, commentary by Ralph Blum, includes 25 runes in a velvet bag, $25.
  • Two children’s classics, Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson, and Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel Defoe, have illustrations by N.C. Wyeth, $7 each.
  • Cadillac: 100 years of Innovation, $4.

After the book sale, George Mason Friends will host ongoing mini-book sales in the library lobby every Friday and Saturday, 12-5 p.m.

  1. So exciting! Many Friends groups have not had big sales through the pandemic, so I’m sure they have lots of good finds saved up.
