Mason District elects Evans to FCPS school board
Mason District voters elected Sandy Evans to the Fairfax County school board March 2. Evans received 2,633 votes, while her opponent, Samantha Rucker received 2,069. While FCPS school board elections are considered non-partisan, Evans was endorsed by the Democratic Party, and Rucker was endorsed by the Republicans. Turnout was light, as this was the only election on the ballot in the Mason District.
At a victory party at her house Tuesday evening, Evans thanked a long list of campaign workers, contributors, and supporters. Among those present were Supervisor Penny Gross and school board members Ilyrong Moon, Tina Hone, and Dan Storck. Rep. Gerry Connolly and board of Supervisors Chair Sharon Bulova called to congratulate Evans.
It hasn’t been determined when Evans will be sworn in, but in any event, she will be at the school board’s work session next Monday.
