Fairfax County Police provided more details on the shooting of a juvenile on Jan. 16.

Just before 8 p.m., officers responded to the 6500 block of Little River Turnpike in Annandale after multiple calls about a shooting.

They found a 14-year-old victim who was shot in the arm a short distance away. He was transported to the hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

Detectives believe the victim and another subject were standing outside Tropical Smoothie Cafe in Pinecrest Plaza when the shooting occurred. They do not think this was a random act of violence. There were no additional injuries.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances that led up to the shooting and are asking the community to review any home surveillance footage in the area to assist in the investigation.

    1. It remains a safe area. When they say it is not a random act of violence, that’s to clue you in that it has little to do with the location in that these are probably persons that knew each other.

      1. They knew each other because they are children they live right down the street and attend school (with my children), where they and their fellow gang members all engage in illicit and illegal activity.

  1. Jimenez did not campaign on “stopping” violent crime. The voters of Mason District did not want, and did not elect, a tough on violent crime Supervisor.

Furthermore, the voters of Fairfax County re-elected a prosecutor who has made it abundantly clear that his focus is on social justice, not on feeding the school to prison incarceration complex.

Not everyone in Fairfax County, including Mason District think it is getting “worse all around.” If everyone in Fairfax County did think this way, they wouldn’t vote the way they do.

    1. Susie – the entire point is that the voters clearly don’t understand what is going on, and thus, made a big mistake by voting the way they did. Crime data proves that crime is getting worse all around. I believe there was an article on this blog and on WTOP in the last 2 weeks proving that.
The notion that Mason voters don’t “think” this is true, while it is, further proves the point.
The fact that all of this goes over your head, further proves the point.

    2. Yet stopping violent crime is the most important and most basic function of local government. If I get hired for a job, and then don’t show up on the first day, is it acceptable to tell my new bosses that I didn’t interview on showing up on time?
