Everyone 16 and up can register for a COVID vaccine April 18
Beginning Sunday, April 18, everyone who lives in the Fairfax Health District age 16 and older will be eligible to directly schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment through VaccineFinder.org. As Fairfax County moves into Phase 2 with the rest of Virginia, the county’s Health Department will no longer register people for vaccinations.
Developer to help pay for bus pullout on Little River Turnpike in Lincolnia

Solar energy in Annandale. The Solarize NOVA program is offering Fairfax County residents discounts on installing solar energy systems through June 30. The program, operating with the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP), gives homeowners and business owners access to a pre-qualified solar installer, Solar Energy World, for a no-cost evaluation of their property.
Fairfax County halts use of J&J vaccine
Updated April 14: Fairfax County will not administer the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine until further notice. That announcement follows the April 13 recommendation by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to pause all J&J vaccinations while health officials investigate a rare side effect.

Pedestrian killed on Arlington Boulevard
A 36-year-old man trying to cross Arlington Boulevard (Route 50) near Graham Road was struck and killed shortly after 10 p.m. on April 9. This is the third pedestrian fatality in Fairfax County in 2021.
Park facilities are reopening
The carousel at Lake Accotink The Fairfax County Park Authority is reopening certain amusements, including the carousel, boating marina, and mini-golf at Lake Accotink Park. Facilities at other parks are reopening, too, such as the mini-train at Burke Lake Park, batting cages, and wagon rides.
Mason District needs better pedestrian and bicycle connections
Old Columbia Pike could use a walkway. Mason District doesn’t have enough safe, connected bicycling routes or pedestrian pathways, which makes it hard to get around without driving. That’s the key message local residents brought to a meeting on the ActiveFairfax transportation initiative April 8 hosted by the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT).
Marijuana possession legal in Virginia as of July 1
The Virginia General Assembly has approved Gov. Ralph Northam’s request to move up the date for legalizing marijuana. As a result, the simple possession of marijuana for recreational use will be legal on July 1, 2021, three years earlier than under legislation passed earlier. Virginia is the first state in the South to legalize marijuana.
