Park Authority contest seeks trail photos

The First Day Hike Photo Contest encourages residents to get outside and explore Fairfax County parks during the New Year’s weekend, Saturday, Dec. 31 through Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023.

The contest is sponsored by the Park Authority and the Fairfax County Park Foundation.

To participate, visit any Fairfax County Park Authority trail, take a photo to commemorate the experience, and submit it to the First Hike Photo Contest website before midnight on Jan. 1. The photo submission link will be posted by 5 a.m. on Dec. 31.

Prizes will be awarded to the best photos in these categories:

  • People’s Choice: $100 Park Authority gift card or a 25-visit FCPA Rec Center Discount Fast Pass (valued at $175).
  • Judges’ Choice: $100 Park Authority gift card or 25-visit FCPA Rec Center Discount Fast Pass.
  • Director’s Choice: $100 Park Authority gift card.
  • Best in Show (Scenery/Landscapes): $75 Park Authority gift card.
  • Best in Show (People): $75 Park Authority gift card.
  • Best in Show (Wildlife): $75 Park Authority gift card.
  • Best in Show (Pets): $75 Park Authority gift card.

Photos must be taken on a trail. Visit the Trail Buddy map to find a trail near you. Photos must be in JPG or PNG format. Entries must clearly indicate the date and trail where the photo was taken. Only one photo per person will be accepted.
