Pinecrest School welcomes a new leader
Pinecrest School, an independent private school in Annandale, welcomes Darren Holgate as the new head of school.
Holgate succeeds Nicole McDermott who retired after leading Pinecrest School for 18 years.
The school. located at 7209 Quiet Cove, serves students from preschool through grade 6.
“I bring a wealth of experience and knowledge from my previous roles in education both as a teacher and school leader, and I am excited to share my insights with the faculty, staff, and students here,” Holgate says. “I believe that a successful school is built on a strong foundation of collaboration, communication, and commitment, and I am confident that we can work together to achieve our shared goals.”
Holgate previously served as the middle school director at the Powhatan School in Boyce, Va., and before that, as director of the lower school at Loudoun Country Day School in Leesburg.

He has a bachelor’s degree in education from Leeds Beckett University in England and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Johns Hopkins University.
