Residents of Add Drive and Ellis Court in the Raymondale neighborhood experienced a water main break this morning. Water was turned off for 25 homes as Fairfax Water carried out repairs at 7402 Add Drive, Falls Church.

According to Fairfax Water, water main breaks can be caused by a variety of factors, including freezing or severe weather, pipe corrosion, soil conditions, age, ground movement, or pipes struck by heavy equipment.

This one was at the same site where the pavement had been dug up several times in the past few months as crews worked on the gas lines, a resident says.

To report a water main break, contact Fairfax Water at 703-698-5613 or  [email protected].

If you water gets turned off, sediment and air can get trapped in the pipes. When water service resumes, Fairfax Water recommends removing aerators from sinks and washing machines and running the water for a few minutes to flush the pipes.
