Seniors interested in competing in the 2023 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics have until Thursday, Aug. 24, to register.

Participation is open to adults aged 50 by Dec. 31 who live in Fairfax County, Falls Church, or any of the other sponsoring jurisdictions. Registration is online only; there is no onsite registration.

The competitions begin on Sept. 9 and continue until Sept. 24.

There are dozens of events, including cycling, swimming, handball, football throw, pickleball, table tennis, cornhole, and bocce.

There are plenty of competitions for the less athletically inclined, such as sudoku, Scrabble, Mexican train dominoes, and canasta.

Several new events were added this year: disc golf, synchronized diving, advanced sudoku, and nine-hole three-par golf.

Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded after each event.

Competitions are held throughout Northern Virginia, including these venues in the Annandale/Mason District area: the Audrey Moore Rec Center. Wakefield Park, Falls Church High School, Goodwin House at Bailey’s Crossroads, Lake Accotink Park, and the Lincolnia Senior Center.
