Upgrade planned for Mason Police Station

Visitors to the Mason District Police Station check in here.

Fairfax County is preparing to carry out a $15-20 million renovation and expansion of the Mason District Police Station.

The project includes an 8,000-square-foot addition and reconfiguration of the interior space, according to a presentation by Kamal Mohey of the Capital Facilities office and Rod Williams, an architect at Dewberry at the Feb. 28 meeting of the Mason District Land Use Committee.

That needs to be done because the police district is outgrowing its space and the existing infrastructure and mechanical systems need upgrading.

The public entrance to the building will remain but a separate entrance. A new entrance will be added for police officers along with a covered courtyard.

The interior section of the building that houses the Mason District supervisor’s office won’t be changed.

However, the entire building will get a new roof and façade improvements. Solar panels will be installed on the roof and possibly on a canopy over the parking lot. The result will be a net-zero sustainable building.

The project will include stormwater improvements on the property. The fuel island serving police vehicles will be relocated.

During construction, the police station will be housed on-site in a temporary building that has been used during fire station construction projects.

Construction is expected to start in early 2024 and should be substantially completed in winter 2025. The building should be ready for occupancy in early 2026.

  1. Solar panels and a new fascade? In the meantime illegal dumping on Americana Drive goes unnoticed. Guy gets shot an ATM and drive out a major bank. Cars and businesses vandalized and robbed regularly (read the police report)—- and heaven forbid we dredge and maintain the community’s. Can we skip the green BS for a few million and just hire more officers who are willing to patrol and enforce laws?

    1. Thank the liberal politicians and voters that continue to elect them, as well as all those voters that don’t vote. This is what enables unnecessary wasteful Fairfax county projects (I count three notable ones from just this web site recently – resident curator, COVID-19 memorial, and now the green police station). That’s why we don’t have enough police and they can’t enforce the laws. Chance for change with Mason supervisor retiring. Also look out for the new sheriff candidate and lord help us if the current commonwealth attorney gets re-elected.

  2. Some parts of Annandale are served by Mason District Police station and other parts are served by West Springfield District Police station.

  3. Can we get substations in Lincolnia and East Market? And yes – skip the green cr_p unless it will pay for more officers?
