Virginia’s tax holiday is next weekend

Virginia is having a sales tax holiday the weekend of Aug. 7-9.
Shoppers will be able to purchase certain items tax-free – including school supplies, clothing, emergency preparedness products, and energy-efficient appliances – between 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, and 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9.
Here’s what’s eligible:
- School supplies – $20 or less per item, such as notebooks, lunchboxes, highlighters, and much more. See the full list of qualified items on the Virginia Department of Taxation’s tax holiday website.
- Clothing and footwear – $100 or less per item.
- Portable generators – $1,000 or less per item.
- Gas-powered chainsaws – $350 or less per item.
- Chainsaw accessories – $60 or less per item
- Other specified hurricane preparedness items – $60 or less per item, such as batteries, radios, phone chargers, tarps, and much more.
- Energy Star products – $2,500 per item or less, including air conditioners, washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators, ceiling fans, dehumidifiers, and light bulbs.
- WaterSense items – $2,500 per item or less, including bathroom sink faucets, showerheads, toilets, and landscape irrigation controllers.
