  1. While I appreciate knowing locations of crime incidents, this report is basically useless as information. Did one person assault someone – was it a large number of people? What would “not aggravated” assault entail – it would certainly aggravate me if I was assaulted in any way. This seems to be another Fairfax County effort to minimize information while appearing to provide it. I do appreciate the boundless efforts of our police – just would like to see more detailed information from their management.

    1. I totally agree providing more information to the Public. Example was it Target or Safeway, rather than only in the block of. Thanks

      1. Blame your democrat dominated county commissioners. In the name of “equity” and “fairness” the commission and FCPD have scrubbed clean all data that would have been useful but might have been perceived as biased against people in different races or subcultures. Aka Persons of color perpetuating crime, being victims of crime, or living in neighborhoods comprised of those individuals with high crime. I don’t like to use the “Woke” lane but it seem most appropriate as this Orwellian new speak that tell you almost nothing.

        1. Nonsense. Go on to cityprotect.com and look at any jurisdiction that provides data and you’ll see that they all report it the same. “100 block Anystreet. Petty Larceny’

Its not the democratic governance, that you so obviously dislike, it’s just the way the application provides the data.

          1. You miss the point entirely. FCPD didn’t use cityprotect until a few months ago. For years and years, they published their own reports. When asked about the reason for the switch, FCPD spokesman cited lack of manpower as the reason. This is preposterous since the data is collected anyway. How long does it take a desk jockey to update a pivot table and post ro a database? A few seconds, maybe a few minutes every week.

  2. @Need more info: At the most recent Mason CAC meeting (1st Tuesday of each month at 7pm at the police station) the question of aggravated vs. simple assault came up. According to https://www.manassaslaw.com: “aggravated assault as an unlawful attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe or aggravated bodily injury. Usually accompanied by the use of a weapon or by means likely to produce death or great bodily harm.” Captain Adcock explained that a simple assault could be pushing or shoving someone else, it does not need to inflict serious harm. The CAC meetings allow time for residents to ask questions/get more details about recent crimes in the area.

  3. In all fairness, this blog is just reporting what is available. The crime report here used to be more detailed, but that information is no longer available.
