Woman shot at Fairmont Gardens

Updated Jan. 18:  A woman has been shot in the 4200 block of Wadsworth Court in Fairmont Gardens in Annandale on Jan. 16, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

The victim walked into the hospital shortly after 1 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening. A friend who was with her when she was shot drove her to the hospital and stayed there until officers arrived.

When officers responded to the scene of the shooting, they found it happened in an apartment well-known to the police.

The shooting does not appear to be a random act, the police say. The suspect, described as a Black male, was allowed into the apartment accompanied by two associates before he shot the woman. All three fled the scene before the police arrived.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to and surrounding the shooting and are asking anyone with information to call the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 5. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Solvers.

  1. I try to be compassionate with people that are lower income but it’s clear the “New Management” of Fairmont Gardens is a failure, and that the county would be better off razing the complex down just for the name 0f safety. If Tysons’, Centreville, and other locations in Fairfax County want to “disperse” low-income housing then so be it but I’m really getting sick of so much of it being distributed in Mason District.

    1. This has nothing to do with management of this or other similar complexes in Mason District. Fairfax county’s affordable housing policy has effectively focused and concentrated in Mason vs other areas of the county. Mason’s last Supervisor & current Supervisor support more affordable housing policies. These ordinances, regulations, and market interventions are good intentions BUT rarely do these ever maintain quality housing, as most of these policies only work with older and cheaper buildings due to cost, either intentionally or unknowingly creating ghetto housing. If the “gardens” were torn down (needs to happen for many reasons), any new housing there would not be affordable except for what the county mandated and that could only be a faction of what is replaced or nothing would be built (again cost). Can we accept that as a community? I can as distributed affordable housing (mixing market rates with limited support for middle and low incomes) has been shown to be beneficial for all groups, especially children. Concentration of affordable housing is bad policy & results for residents in those complexes, taxpayers, and all of us.

      1. Unfortunately the complex management do have something to do with the safety within their community. They’re getting these people rent and government funding but they’re not putting it within the community only into renovations of apartments to have more people move in. The could start funding in armed security and also start putting keypad locks on the buildings to make the residents feel safer in their environment nobody wants to keep paying high end rent in run down areas and can’t even get the luxury of what they’re paying for. My community was the same exact way but once they started funding into armed security and the police made consistent passbys the chaos have slowed down , if the complex management wants their residents to stay and feel safe they’ll take those measures but they don’t care because they’re not living there. They won’t care until someone comes into that office and all hell break loose on them I pray it doesn’t happen but we’re living in a crazy world

    2. Agreed, it is out of control. My question for Mason, are you going to hold Jimenez accountable? We have not heard from him on the terrible spike in crime in Mason. Its time for Andres to take off the blinders and act if you really want this Supervisor job, which in concept is a joke in itself.

      1. Hey Vax, what are you talking about?

The election which Andres won convincingly was held only a few months ago.

Andres did not run as a tough on violent crime Supervisor. The voters of Mason District did not vote for such a Supervisor.

You may be a resident of Mason District, but you are just one person.

The voters of Mason District elected a man who represents what can be achieved by recent immigrants to this great nation if they are supported and promoted, not demonized and attacked.

Yes, action should be taken to reduce the crime in the lower income areas of Annandale and Culmore, especially because they are inhabited by lower income, recent immigrants to this nation who do not have the political power to demand they receive the same level of security provided in the more affluent and privileged areas of Fairfax County.

    1. Used to be nice, clean, and 100% totally safe when I lived there. This photograph actually shows our unit. In the mid 1970s when I went to Annandale High. Lots of the kids lived there. Loved the pool.

    1. Its never enough here in Mason, because “Mason Matters” too much for the criminals to go elsewhere when they can get away with anything in Mason District!

  2. I use to live there back in the 80,s. It was a nice place to live then. Sounds like management needs to clean up the place and get security there as well. CD

  3. I agree with IK. I pay loads of taxes to FC, and I am becoming quite frustrated with the unsavory behavior of a culture that is given a lot of just about everything and then proceeds to conduct themselves inappropriately and criminally. There is a serious trickle down of negativity, including to children, that has got to stop. The continuing situation at this complex is why Americans and other nations, have soured on policies.

Just because you set standards, boundaries, and expectations, does not mean that you do not care about others. Stop shaming society who simply wants to live peacefully.

  4. Unfortunately my X wife and 2 beautiful doghter living there. I can not contact to my family by court order from August 2018 until present. I hope my X and 5& 6 years old kids be OK and safe .

  5. This woman willingly let these people into her apartment. Security would not have helped. Part of the problem is that developers are allowed to pay fines instead of having the required number of low income units in their buildings, so we house all low income people together and chaos results. If low income units were dispersed among higher end units there would be positive vs. negative role models and better policing.

    1. I was the women who got shot and unfortunately I do not live at that apartment nor do I live in that neighborhood. Just to clear that up.
