Youths age 12-15 can now get COVID vaccinations

Now that the federal government has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use in adolescents, Fairfax County parents can make appointments for youths age 12-15.
Schedule a vaccination at a Health Department clinic here and select Pfizer.
The Tysons Community Vaccination Center is also is accepting adolescent appointments and walk-ins beginning May 14.
A parent, guardian, or another adult in place of the parent/guardian must accompany anyone under the age of 18 to their appointment at these Health Department sites.
People can also search for vaccines on Vaccines.gov or contact their own physician to see if they have vaccines available. Those unable to use the online scheduler can call the Health Department, 703-324-7404.

Vaccinations are free of charge, although some sites might ask for health insurance information.
To ensure equity, the Health Department is working with Fairfax County Public Schools on strategies to provide vaccines to under-resourced students. Parents are encouraged to monitor their email and school announcements for information and updates.
Administration of the Pfizer vaccine in adolescents will be the same as in adults: The vaccine is given in two doses, separated by 21 days. Adolescents are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving the second dose. Side effects in this age group could include pain or redness in the arm where the vaccine is given, fatigue, fever, and muscle aches.
